ABATEMENT

Asbestos, lead, and mold continue to be prevalent in the built environment, despite decades of regulation and prevention measures. Any building or structure built pre-1978 is likely to have some asbestos or lead-containing building materials. Mold is ubiquitous in the environment, and unlike asbestos and lead, mold abatement is typically required following water intrusion into building materials.

TEC is recognized as a leader in safety within the abatement services industry. Our range of testing services covers lead, mold, asbestos, and PCBs, all supported by a highly skilled team of Industrial Hygienists and certified specialists. Whether you need basic testing, complex air quality assessments, or monitoring, we handle a diverse array of projects.

Asbestos Abatement

Asbestos is a highly hazardous material that requires expert evaluation and removal to help ensure the health and safety of building occupants. Once asbestos is positively identified (or presumed to be an asbestos-containing material) in a building, the local/state regulatory agency should be notified of the intended abatement activities.

TEC maintains abatement licenses for each state we serve, as well as licensed and certified supervisors required for the work. Most abatement projects involve the set up of a containment area complete with a negative pressure system for the protection of the occupants in the remainder of the building and the asbestos workers, supervisors, and industrial hygienists.

Lead Abatement

Lead is a highly hazardous material that requires expert evaluation and removal to ensure the health and safety of building occupants. Historically, lead was used in paints and caulking before 1978, but its use extended beyond the seventies for decades. Once lead is positively identified (or presumed to be present in materials due to age), the local/state regulatory agency should be notified of the intended abatement activities.

TEC maintains abatement licenses for each state we serve, as well as licensed and certified supervisors required for the work. Most abatement projects involve the set up of a containment area complete with a negative pressure system for the protection of the occupants in the remainder of the building and the lead workers, supervisors, and industrial hygienists.

Mold Abatement

Mold is naturally occurring in the environment, but can be a highly hazardous material that requires expert evaluation and removal to ensure the health and safety of building occupants. Construction materials such as wood and drywall often serve as organic matter for mold growth once water is introduced (e.g. a leaky pipe, a hole in the roof, or flooding).

Once mold is identified, abatement activities may be warranted to mitigate airborne mold spores. Mold abatement licenses for each state in which TEC serves are typically not required like they are for asbestos and lead, but the processes, control measures, and safety precautions are similar. Our team has licensed and certified supervisors for this type of abatement work.
